Fly-in 07

What a 2 days - the Saturday very nearly became the 1st Fly-in in the history of the club that we had no aircraft in at all. The 2 lunatics from the North in the weightshifts had flown in the day before and treated us to a great exhibition of flying in these maddest of machines.

But we had no aircraft in until the late afternoon of Gay Treacy from Roscrea, who rescued the situation and became the only arrival on the first day of the event - Many thanks Gay for preventing a duck!!

The Saturday evening was monsoon season in Birr with rain, lightning and thunder the like of which has not been seen in years.

In spite of the weather an impressive crowd descended from all corners of the country for the evenings festivities. Many thanks to all for braving the weather.

All were welcomed by the club chairman Colm and First Solo awards were given out to John Heffernan and Ciaran Hogan (in EI-AST) and Colm Wright (in EI-DKW). PPL(A) was awarded to Martin Kennedy (in EI-AST).

Colm commenced proceedings as DJ until the arrival of the special guest band - Abba - Mary, Paula Kevin and myself (Alan) took to the stage in spectacular costumes including flairs and wigs to give 8 minutes of rendition of old abba faves - The craic was mighty.

The night continued into the early hours with the usual tales of exploits in the airways of Ireland and further afield. A great night was had by all. Many thanks from all at the club to all who came - you made the night. Thanks also to the hotel - dooleys in Birr for the excellent arrangements and food and to Paula for organising the evening event.

The Sunday looked better and the number of aircraft reflected this. We had one of the military cessnas down, the Coastguard did a great display in their Sikorsky Chopper, we had aerobatic displays from Dave Bruton in his Extra 200 throughout the day and from Gerry Humphries in his RV7. Many thanks to all who attended and made the fly in another successful one for the club.
